Company History

Company History

The business developed from a hobby, in the early 1970's, into a retail business with five stores in the North West of England and Worldwide Mail-Order sales.
Increased purchasing power enabled the Hilton twins to travel the World to source interesting, competitive and quality products to market. Subsequently a wholesale business was established and the retail shops were closed down - with the exception of Stockport - as the wholesale company grew and became the prime scource of supply for many similar businesses throughout Europe. The combination of the two businesses has been prompted by a rapid increase in internet activity such that our site - www.gemcraft.co.uk - now offers competitive quantity based pricing to customers around the World.

To celebrate 40 years of trading we summarised some of the significant changes that have taken place during that time - it makes interesting reading !

And Finally ! - 1962 Ford Classic

And Finally ! - 1962 Ford Classic

An eye-catching attraction (the car - not the person !) that can sometimes be seen in our car park (on sunny days only !): A rare LHD 1962 Ford consul Classic 315 that is preserved and maintained by John Hilton and his family. For about fourteen years the car had been an exhibit in a Paris museum and then purchased by a farmer who had then stored it in a barn for a further seven years. An enthusiast, on holiday in France, spotted the Ford Classic and negotiated to purchase it: He then shipped it back to Britain where he restored it to concourse condition, in the late 1980's.

This rare Classic has been exhibited at the NEC Classic Motor Show (Birmingham) and other regional events with the Ford Classic and Capri Owners Club: FCCOC

Our stock range, of around 10,000 items, covers hobby and professional requirements for craft/workshop/therapy use. E & O E. Copyright: Manchester Minerals Ltd. August 2017
